Well, it’s not my fault that the studios opted to open everything by Christmas, but it resulted in everything about this week’s releases being in last week’s “Reeler”—and, in some cases, even the reviews have run. In short, there is no news. Whether it is true that no news is good news remains to be seen. But, hey, what there is, you’re getting early.

Accidental­ly awesome: The Dex Romweber Duo

Dexter Romweber started Flat Duo Jets back in the mid-80s. The Chapel Hill band influenced the likes of Neko Case and Jack White. These days, Dex performs with his percussionist sister Sara Romweber (Let’s Active). The Dex Romweber Duo plays The Grey Eagle on Friday, Dec. 28. In advance, Dex talked to Xpress about documentary films, N.C. bands, creativity and his real feelings about drum-and-guitar duos.

With speculation rampant across the world over the possibility of a mysterious cataclysmic event occurring tomorrow, Dec. 21 in conjunction with the supposed end of the Mayan calendar, Xpress took a look at more realistic local threats this week in the story “Tomorrow Never Knows: WNC Disasters Past, Present and Future.” As part of our research for that story, we compiled several photos from one of the biggest natural disasters to strike our region in modern history – the floods of 2004.
