In 2005, Andrew Thompson completed the 2,181-mile Appalachian Trail in 47 days, 13 hours and 31 minutes. Jennifer Pharr Davis might have broken it today: According to an update from her blog, reported by BlueRidgeNow.com (the Hendersonville Times-News, Davis just completed the course in 46 days, 11 hours and 20 minutes.
The "Smokies Wildnerness Elite Appalachian Trail" Crew is the "Delta Force" of trail maintenance on the AT. Operating strictly in the backcountry, they perform trail maintenance in areas that are beyond the range and ability of trail clubs.
