PRESS RELEASE FROM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
On Saturday, May 7, Habitat’s 2011 Women Build Leadership Team will take to the streets and pubs of West Asheville to build awareness and raise funds for the 2011 Women Build House. The house is being built off Virginia Avenue in West Asheville at Habitat’s new Carney Place neighborhood. Volunteer slots are still available and the team is just $8,000 shy of its fundraising goal.
The Hard Hats & High Heels Pub Strut and Concert is open to the public and yes, men are welcome to join in the festivities too!
When: May 7, 2011, 6pm – 11pm
Where
• Tolliver’s, 6-7pm
• Westville Pub, 7-8pm
• Universal Joint, 8-9pm
Altamont Brewing Company, 9-11pm: A free concert will feature Kate McNally, Hannah Levin, Jenna Lindbo and Lyric. Donations (for Women Build) are encouraged. The concert is sponsored by CityMac. Enter your name in a raffle for a chance to win an iPad!!!

The 2011 Women Build Leadership team: Jennifer Coakley, Susan Culler, Gina Drew, Alisa Hixson, Neely Neu, Peggy Newell, Kristine Oblock, Soni Pitts, and Janet Whitworth.
Why:
To support the 2011 Women Build program. Women Build (WB) encourages and empowers women to take action and to build Habitat houses, addressing the problem of substandard housing in a concrete way, so families have safe, decent and affordable homes. This year’s Women Build House is the sixth WB house built by Asheville Area Habitat.
Since 1983, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has welcomed 214 Buncombe County families to safe, decent and affordable houses. Homes are sold at no profit to partner families, who pay back a 0% interest loan. For more information, visit ashevillehabitat.org.
