The gist, from the organizers:

What: Weldon Rising is an edgy and unpredictable play with apocalyptic themes, the tale of a circle of gay characters who grow estranged from each other after witnessing a hate crime.
There will be a speaker panel after the show Friday, April 10 to discuss hate crimes in our Asheville community, and talk-backs every night except the last show, April 18.

Who: Scapegoat Theatre Collective is a local, non-profit theatre committed to exciting, relevant theatre in a community based model.

When: Thursday nights through Saturday nights, April 9-11 and 16-18. Shows at 8 p.m., tickets are $15. Available at Malaprop's.

Where: BeBe Theatre, 20 Commerce St.

Why: Proceeds benefit Youth OUTRight, a support and empowerment group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth.

    • Scapegoat always chooses powerful works. I saw "Weldon Rising" opening night and sat on the edge of my seat watching these relationships evolve from trauma. It's gripping and hopeful.

    • Thanks for the enthusiasm folks! It is a great show! Just want to correct, 'rush tickets' are available if you show up 10 minutes before the show, not early, as it is a fundraiser and we're trying to make all the money we can for Youth OUTRight. If you want to reserve a ticket, go to Malaprop's or call 828-333-3074. Just want to avoid confusion at box office. :) See you there!
