According to a full but unofficial tally by Buncombe Election Services, 61 percent of Swannanoa voters have said no to incorporation.

Maybe not,Jeff. While the threat of annexation was just a scare tactic in this issue, forced annexation exists in NC. Most other states need a vote to accomplish annexation. NC does not This is a good place to place our efforts- we need to work to change the way annexation works here, so we don't have to ever worry about being taken against our will. We should take a hard look at how the incorporation process works, as well. Why should land that is exempt from annexation be allowed to be dragged into an incorporated area at all- much less without having a referendum required here too. Food for thought.

Jeff, I never believed annexation was a threat to Swannanoa. Still, who knows what the future holds? This particular brand of incorporation, with these people as leaders, was never an palatable option, either. Seems to me you should go to the root of the problem and dig it out- fix the glitches in annexation and incorporation and you aren't confronted with a set of "false" choices- none of them viable. I plan to join some of the groups exploring there matters. I also plan to keep my community more vigilant to further violation of our privacy and peace in the future. Thanks for your support.

your welcome..my tenure in office has been and still is all about me helping my buncombe neighbors..maybe there is something other than incorporation,,or annexation...maybe a property owners rights group..on behalf of all residents of swannanoa,,im reaching here but any collective group often has more clout to fend off unwanted advances from all sources whether public or private...these are my thoughts,,but be more than just a organization...keep up on your aging and needy,be the community that i/we know you are,,
my greatgrand=parents lived up on that hill above beacon for years,my grandfather as well ..i have deep roots in the area...i do care..yours truly

I hope Swannanoa stays Sawnnanoa for their own good. If it becomes another burb of Asheville then they too can see their tax money get wasted downtown while their sidewalks go untended or cease to grow. While the holy land of Downtown Asheville gets new Rust, greenways, and other wastes of tax money.
