Chelsea Lynn LaBate, aka Ten Cent Poetry, got her chops performing delicate folk pop in the cafes and bars of New York's Lower East Side. Now a permanent Asheville resident, LaBate has enlisted the help of local cellist Melissa Hyman and a rotating cast of contributors to expand her sonic landscape. After nearly a year of recording, Ten Cent Poetry recently released its debut full-legnth, Picking Through the Pawn Shop, a lush and sprawling take on LaBate's melodic, lyric-driven songwriting. We caught up with the singer/songwriter earlier this month for a solo performance at the West Asheville Tailgate Market.

Seems as though the Mtn. X entertainment writers are hung up on a singer-songwriter for 2 fashion articles and 2 music write ups for "3 chords and the truth" within a month's worth of articles. Cronyism, anyone?
