Jocelyn Garnace, an employee of the Goodwill store in Asheville, said she picked up the sock from a bin of donated clothes, and the money, totaling $5,365, fell by her feet along with pay stubs dating back to 1975, WHNS-TV, Greenville, S.C., reported Tuesday.
“I’ve found cash before, but nothing like this,” Garnace said.
“I had to turn it in,” Garnace said. “It’s not mine. I know I did the right thing.”
She said the pay stubs were tracked to a 96-year-old Asheville woman, whose family had donated many of her belongings when she moved to an assisted-living facility. The woman’s niece, who accepted the money from Goodwill, said the woman was known to keep money hidden in various locations around her house.
Report from United Press International
Several local businesses are recognizing her kindness and honesty, and rewarding Garnace's good deed. The French Bistro Bouchon will give her a free dinner, Blue Water Seafood will provide a gift card and local tech-guru José Ibarra of Applied Solutions is giving her four Asheville Tourist baseball tickets.

Another publication said it was a check that was found. If it was cash...I would have slipped that in my pocket. No one would have ever known. Making about 7.25/hr at Goodwill, she'll regret this in about a month or so. Being a good samaritan is all fine and good but it doesn't pay the bills. The person in the assisted living facility would have never known it was missing probably.
