The Buncombe County Department of Health is on the move towards a Human Services Complex. This complex will improve access and provide services to citizens in a seamless, one-stop format. This approach of seamless and aligned services is a goal of the Board of Commissioners. One way to achieve this is with the development of service centers. These centers allow citizens easy access to a variety of services and promote collaboration among departments that result in more efficient, cost-effective service for citizens.

In the interim, the Department of Health will continue to provide services from other locations. Clinic services will begin their move in about a week.

Health Department services will be provided at the new locations below:

Family Planning, Prenatal Health, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control (BCCCP) and Wisewoman services will be provided beginning August 10th at 53 South French Broad Avenue in downtown Asheville. This building is located at the corner of South French Broad Avenue and Hilliard Street near Aston Park.

Vital Records (birth and death certificates) will be relocated in mid-August to 59 Woodfin Place, at the corner of Charlotte Street and Woodfin Place in downtown Asheville.

Immunizations and Disease Control will continue to provide services at 35 Woodfin Street in downtown Asheville. They will move to the lower level of the building in late August.

WIC/Nutrition services will soon be provided in three new locations, bringing the total number of WIC locations to six.

New: Human Services West building at 339 New Leicester Highway, behind McDonald’s
New: 297 Haywood Street – at the corner of downtown Patton Avenue and Haywood Street, across from Hunter Asheville car dealership
New: Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS) at 257 Biltmore Avenue. These services are for WNCCHS patients only.

Existing WIC/Nutrition offices are:
– Black Mountain WIC Clinic
– Asheville City Schools Preschool Program
– MAHEC Women’s Health Center on Victoria Road (for MAHEC-WHC patients only)

The Department of Health will continue to provide the same quality, patient-centered care for the community throughout this transition period to the Human Services Complex. Watch for this information at Buncombe County libraries and other agencies.Read the full article
