The N.C. Department of Transportation will have a nighttime closure in place Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both directions of Interstate 26 at Exit 53 (Upward Road) in Henderson County for the construction of a new bridge over the interstate on Upward Road. The closure will be performed on Wednesday, Sept. 14, should weather cancel the work on Tuesday.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured up the off-ramp at Exit 53 (Upward Road) and back down the on-ramp to I-26. Advance warning signs and traffic control devices, as well as police, will be in place to aid with the movement of traffic.
The construction of the new six-lane bridge over I-26 is part of a $24 million project to widen Upward Road near Hendersonville to a four-lane divided highway between U.S. 176 and Howard Gap Road. The project contractor is Blythe Development Co. of Charlotte.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
