David Pimentel, author of “Food, Energy and Society,” will speak Oct. 5 at Warren Wilson College as part of the Environmental Leadership Center's Fall Speakers Series. His free public presentation, titled “Food, Biofuels and the Environment,” begins at 7 p.m. in the Warren Wilson College Chapel.
Pimentel's research spans the fields of energy, population ecology, biological pest control, sustainable agriculture, environmental policy and land and water conservation. He is professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at Cornell University, where he earned his Ph.D.
Pimentel has published 680 scientific papers and 36 books and has served on many national and government committees, including the National Academy of Sciences; President's Science Advisory Council; U.S. Department of Agriculture; U.S. Department of Energy; U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare; Office of Technology Assessment of the U.S. Congress; and the U.S. State Department.
