The state's wine industry has produced significant economic fruit in recent years, topped by a $1.28 billion overall impact in 2009, according to a report released Wednesday by the N.C. Commerce Department.Read the full article
The report looked at the industry's economic growth from 2005 to 2009.
During that time the industry had a net gain of 613 jobs, bringing the total to 3,830. It also helped create 1,235 jobs around the state, bringing to 3,745 the number of jobs supported indirectly by the wine industry, such as through increased sales at grocery stores.
