UPDATE: The Washington Post is now reporting that President Obama is planning to kick-off a three-day bus tour of North Carolina and Virginia in Asheville, on Monday, Oct. 17, to tout his jobs plan. Stay tuned for more information on the time and venue.

Our Oct. 9 post on the speculation that President Obama was planning to return to Asheville:

In the wake of an Oct. 5 article in the Washington Post reporting that President Barack Obama is planning a bus tour of North Carolina and Virginia, Drew Reisinger and others are speculating that the tour will include a stop in Asheville.

Reisinger was a paid staffer for the local arm of Obama's campaign in 2008. He's remained heavily involved in politics and is currently serving as the Buncombe County register of deeds.

He recently reported via a pair of Twitter posts:

"Word on the street: Barack Obama is coming back to Asheville..."

"There is a good chance Obama will start his bus tour in #AVL on Oct. 17 to push his jobs plan..."

The President vacationed with First Lady Michelle in April of 2010, staying at the Grove Park Inn and visiting such landmarks as the Biltmore Estate and the 12 Bones Smokehouse. During that trip, he and his wife remarked to residents that he loved the town. He also paid a visit to the area during the 2008 campaign, speaking to a huge crowd on the campus of Asheville High School.

According to the Washington Post article, the upcoming tour is scheduled for Oct. 17-19, although no further details have been confirmed.

"Obama is intent on keeping up the pressure on Congress over his jobs proposal, a message the White House believes can resonate with the public, and he often picks states that could be important for his 2012 re-election chances. North Carolina and Virginia are both traditionally Republican states that Obama won in 2008," according to the Post.

    • the guy is just another liar like every other politician. he lied to us w/all those BS campaign promises in 2008. he's practically on the board of monsanto now, he's done nothing to curtail big gov't spending, and he's not helping the average american out in any way w/health care or finances. if he comes to asheville, I'm organizing a Picket.

While he has indeed broken several campaign promises, he has not, by any measure, broken them all.

    • Maybe he is coming back for more barbeque. Oh wait, aren't they telling everyone to eat more healthy? Apparently they don't practice what they preach. This visit is just another PR plug, being that the elections are right around the corner

    • I'd also like to ask Obama why he is breaking his promise about not using Justice Dept resources to subvert state medical marijuana laws.
