FULL PRESS RELEASE:
Pat Cothran, a Buncombe County native with more than 25 years of experience in the land title insurance industry, has organized a candidate committee for her campaign to run on the Republican ticket for Buncombe County Register of Deeds in 2012.

“My profession requires daily interaction with the documents recorded in the Register of Deeds office,” Cothran says, during her talks to various groups and organizations in recent months about her candidacy. “The Register of Deeds is a position of great importance with significant responsibility, involving instruments primarily related to real estate transactions, such as deeds and deeds of trust.”

Cothran’s education includes a Bachelors degree with a major in Real Estate, a Masters degree in Business Administration, and a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship. She has opened and managed five real estate title insurance offices in Western North Carolina since 1986, all of which are still in operation. In 2001, she incorporated her own title agency, Old North State Title, Ltd.

Cothran’s company insures the titles of properties throughout Buncombe County and WNC. The decision to issue title insurance is made only after a thorough review of the status of the title, based upon a search of records maintained in the Register of Deeds office.

“An in-depth understanding of legal instruments and terminology is imperative to the success of my business,” Cothran explains. “I am well-acquainted with the level of accuracy and attention to detail necessary when working with the public’s essential documents.” Speaking further about the office she seeks, Cothran says, “I care about the preservation and security of the vital records of this county. These records are our history, and they document the events that have occurred in the lives of the people of Buncombe County for generations. I will work diligently to ensure that information is recorded and maintained according to the laws of the State of NC. My goal is to make certain that the Register of Deeds office exceeds the expectations of our Buncombe County citizens.”

Cothran’s education, her years of experience in the real estate title insurance industry, and her expertise as a business woman, together with her knowledge of genealogical and historical research, have provided her with unique qualifications to serve as Buncombe County Register of Deeds.
