FROM DIAMOND BRAND (full release)
Diamond Brand will host a book launch for the new edition of Horace Kephart’s classic, “Camping and Woodcraft” on Thurs., Nov. 17th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Arden store. This special event features a presentation by Kephart scholar and renowned naturalist George Ellison and George Frizzell, University Archivist, Western Carolina University.

This fall release, published by the Great Smoky Mountains Association, is the current “Two-Volumes-in-One” version and spans 46 chapters and covers such diverse topics as edible plants, bee hunting, cave exploring, basket making, how to walk in the woods, tanning skins, outdoor survival, emergency shelters, cabin making, furnishing your cabin, bark utensils, route finding, avoidingwoodland pests, camp bedding, and eight chapters focused entirely on camp cooking and recipes.

Great Smoky Mountains Association’s version of “Camping and Woodcraft” is a milestone. The association has completely digitized and re-typeset the entire book, greatly improving readability and expanding the book’s content to an impressive 888 pages. This recent publication has also added over 40 historic photographs for its readers’ enjoyment. Also, this updated edition features a brand new 80-page introduction by Kephart scholars Ellison and Janet McCue who artfully retell the dramatic story of Kephart’s professional successes, his spectacular collapse, and his rebirth in the wilderness.

“We are excited to host this event as Kephart’s book, ‘Camping and Woodcraft’ is a must read for those who love the outdoors,” said Sarah Merrell, Marketing Manager – Diamond Brand Outdoors. “His love and passion for the outdoors is so contagious and inspiring— it is no wonder that this book has transcended generations.”
