This year's TEDxAsheville takes place Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 at the Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place. Jason Sandford reported in the Asheville Citizen-Times:
...In a few short months [in 2009], a group of dedicated volunteers put together TEDx Asheville, an event featuring a slew of speakers and entertainers on stage at The Orange Peel. The public’s reception took organizers by surprise — with The Orange Peel at capacity, some 300 others were turned away at the door. Asheville was the first North Carolina city to host a locally organized TED.
Now in its third year, a group of 50 volunteers has pulled together an event with speakers, entertainment and extended breaks designed to enable more networking. The excitement born three years ago through social media connections such as Twitter — and over coffee — remains. ...
This year’s speakers include a renowned science writer, activists, musicians and bloggers — all of whom aspire to change at least a little section of the world.
The conference creates “a platform where humanity steps in front of the camera and shares best practices for being better human beings,” [Jennifer] Saylor said. ...Read the full article
