FROM BLUE RIDGE BIOFUELS, full release
For the first time in the region, your used turkey oil can produce biodiesel for powering your neighbor’s car or heating your home. The Cooking Oil Recycling (COR) Program provides a healthier method for Asheville and neighboring residents to dispose of used cooking oil this holiday season. With increased usage of cooking oil expected for the holidays, the COR Program is placing specially-made recycling bins throughout Western North Carolina with the goal of keeping used cooking oil out of the sewers and landfill.

“The more oil we collect, the more we can ultimately bring to Blue Ridge Biofuels to convert into clean, green biofuel to sell back to local residents,” says Melita Kyriakou, Business Administrator at Blue Ridge Biofuels. “This will in turn increase production and decrease cost of biofuel within the region while decreasing the amount of your tax dollars spent on sewer repairs.”

The COR Program accepts every form of used animal and vegetable cooking oil. 37 locally-made recycling bins - recognizable as blue 55, black 100, and black 300-gallon drums outfitted with black skimmers, and custom orange labels - will be placed across Asheville and neighboring counties for used cooking oil including the follow currently on location:

• River District Recycling Center (1 Roberts Street Asheville, NC 28801)

• Buncombe County Landfill (81 Panther Branch Road Alexander, NC 28701)

• Henderson County Landfill (806 Stoney Mountain Road Hendersonville, NC 28791)

• Madison County Landfill (271 Craig Rudisill Road Marshall, NC 28753)

A pilot program backed by the Biofuels Center of North Carolina, this campaign is the first of its kind in the region and includes a new website (www.CookingOilRecycling.org) with additional information and resources relating to disposing of used cooking oil. Those with suggestions on where to put a recycling bin are encouraged to contact Melita kyriakou at Office@blueridgebiofuels.com. General queries can be posted on our Facebook Page at www.Facebook.com/CookingOilRecycling.Read the full article
