“We’ve seen a huge increase over last year,” said Kathy Butler, managing partner of the Asheville office of Snelling Staffing Services.
“We’ve seen a 50 percent increase in seasonal temporary employment,” Butler said. “That’s substantial.”
The U.S. Department of Labor reported recently that employers added 80,000 jobs in October. The number was slightly less than what was anticipated but still strong. Retailers added 17,800 jobs last month. The National Retail Federation projects that retailers will hire about 490,000 part-time seasonal employees this year, about the same level as last year.
