Vigil today to remember those who have been killed as result of gender identity

Members of Asheville’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and their allies will gather today for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, an international event that memorializes those who have been killed as a result of their gender identity.

The event, co-sponsored by the local group Just Us for All and the UNC Asheville Alliance, will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Civic Center and proceed in a candlelit march to the Vance Monument, where the names and stories of some who have died will be read.
