A concrete plant in the Flat Creek area that sparked controversy and lawsuits when it was proposed has closed, although it is not clear if the closure is temporary or permanent.

The telephone number for Blue Ridge Concrete , located on Murphy Hill Road near the Flat Creek exit on U.S. 19-23, has been disconnected or is no longer in service. Efforts to reach Mark Turner, who spearheaded efforts to get the plant approved by regulators, were unsuccessful. ...
