Democratic state Sen. Martin Nesbitt has released a statement attacking the GOP redistricting plans for the General Assembly. Full statement below:
Raleigh, NC – North Carolina Senate Democratic Leader Martin Nesbitt released the following statement regarding the Republican legislative redistricting plans:
“I’ve had time to conduct a preliminary review of the Republican legislative redistricting plans.
“It’s clear to me that Republicans are using a flawed interpretation of federal law as nothing more than an excuse to re-segregate North Carolina and consolidate Republican political power. Republicans have ignored public testimony objecting to their racially-driven practices and are continuing to use the Voting Rights Act as cover for their plan to wall off black voters to ensure that as many safe Republican seats as possible are drawn.
“Not only are they blatantly wrong on the law, but Republicans are cynically assuming that North Carolina hasn’t made any progress in the last 30 years. Republicans’ strategy of ignoring public comment and the law is an affront to the very principles they promised to follow at the very outset of this process: drawing ‘fair and legal’ districts.”

Republicans ignoring public comment? Think Obamacare. Republicans are not the only stripe of politicians who ignore the people; Matter of fact when Dems ignore the people, it often results in major, rather than minor, impacts on society. The "stimulus" that wasted about one trillion if one includes the cost of borrowing. With no effect except some major temporary redistribution and politicial payoffs to Dem supporters.
