State to provide money for logjam cleanup on French Broad River

The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources will provide $25,000 in financial assistance to aid in the removal of the logjam on the French Broad River near the Transylvania Community Airport, according to a news release from Gov. Beverly Perdue.

The massive debris jam that spreads 150 feet across the river and 12 feet high poses a threat to boaters and water quality, said Jeff Parker, district director for Transylvania County Soil and Water Conservation District.
