The Mountain Area Radio Reading Service is continu- ously seeking volunteers to help fulfill its mission. Volun- teers are needed to read the local newspapers in both Asheville and Hendersonville daily; to help manage the daily broadcast recordings and to serve on the organiza- tions Board of Directors. The Mountain Area Radio Reading Service of Asheville, North Carolina is a radio reading service for individuals who are blind, visually or print impaired. Volunteers read local news and events from the Asheville Citizen-Times, the Mountain Express, the Black Mountain News, the Hendersonville Times-News and the Transylvania Times. Eligible individuals are issued special easy to operate radio units.
Readings from other publications include: The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and People magazine, among others.
MARRS broadcasts 24 hours a day 7 days a week via the sub-carriers of public radio stations WNCW-FM 88.7 and WCQS-FM 88.1 whose generous assistance is gratefully acknowledged.
