Health officials are concerned that Buncombe County parents are using a religious exemption to avoid getting their children vaccinated at a rate more than seven times the North Carolina average.
Figures compiled by the N.C. Immunization Branch show that last school year 4.6 percent of the county’s kindergartners had the exemption, compared with 0.64 percent statewide.
