Here's the announcement from the local Red Cross office in Asheville:

AMERICAN RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF TRAINING

In 2011, American Red Cross Disaster Action Teams responded to just over 200 incidents of disaster in Western North Carolina. These teams deliver timely and responsive aid to victims of disaster through out our region, coming into their lives after unimaginable devastation and guiding them towards long term recovery.

On January 21st, there will be a Disaster Relief Training from 9:00am to 12:30pm for all those interested in becoming part of the Disaster Action Team. This course will be held at the American Red Cross located at 100 Edgewood RD, Asheville NC 28804.

This course will provide an overview and introduction to Disaster Services at the American Red Cross, after which participants will have the opportunity to complete a volunteer application. Attendees will learn the role of the American Red Cross in Disaster Relief and its daily mission to serve the residents of Western North Carolina as well as the entire nation.

All interested parties are welcome to attend.
