Full announcement from the Asheville Police Department:
ASHEVILLE – On Saturday, 01-21-12, at approx. 5:34 pm; the Asheville Police Department received a call from two off-duty Law Enforcement Officers from TN, who advised that they had observed a suspect breaking into the pay box located inside of the parking lot on the West side of the Haywood Park Hotel.
The witnesses stated that the W/M suspect pulled a large pair of bolt cutters from underneath his coat and quickly cut the lock on the pay box, making off with an undisclosed amount of currency.
Officers quickly saturated the area and were able to identify Robert Jason Miller of 60 Flint St. in North Asheville, as matching the description of the suspect. A search of his person revealed the bolt cutters and a quick “show up” with the witnesses confirmed his involvement in the crime.
A follow-up interview with investigators revealed his involvement in 3 x other Break-ins to coin machines in the downtown area. Mr. Miller was subsequently transported to the Detention Facility and charged with:
Breaking into Coin/Currency Machine (m) x 4
Injury to Real Property (m) x 4
Larceny (m) x 5
Poss. Of Burglary Tools (F) x 1
Bond was set at $8,500.00 dollars secure.
