    • I'm glad they're bringing jobs to NC, but they won't even be in the top five brewers in this area. Sierra Nevada was good back when they were the only craft beer besides Sam Adams. I'll take the Wedge, Pisgah, Highland, Jack of the Wood, APC, and French Broad over Sierra any day. Also, even if they build a music venue, why would anyone drive to Henderson county when the best venue in the southeast is already at Pisgah Brewing? BUY LOCAL!!!

      • Once Sierra Nevada moves here they *will* be local.

    • Sierra is not coming here to compete. The cost of shipping beer from California to the East Coast is not insignificant, which is why it makes economic sense for Sierra Nevada to establish an East Coast production facility. The amount of SN product consumed in WNC is and will remain a drop in their beer bucket.

Sierra will not compete with the WNC brewing community but complement it. We have a lot of great breweries here now, but SN will create a critical mass that improves the environment for all. Sierra's ability to draw brewing resources, especially enormous grain shipments, to WNC should lower costs for all local brewers, giving each a chance to boost their own competitiveness.

As many of our local brewers do, and as Sierra does in Chico, I'd expect SN to offer small batch brews to brewery visitors. I look forward to having this reason to visit Henderson County! This will not diminish my patronage of the excellent establishments cited above (and I'll add Oyster House and LAB to Ashevegasjoe's list), nor of other favorite Carolina brewers, such as Nantahala, Foothills and RJ Rockers.

Of course, the biggest ingredient in beer is water. So keep a close eye on the local water issue, and remember that the quality of our water helps our brewing community thrive. It is a highly valuable resource that must be safeguarded. Be wary of Raleigh's interference.
