In 1995, a Certificate of Public Advantage agreement allowed Mission Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital to merge. In the past year, debate over the COPA has escalated. Here's the latest update.

In a Jan. 11 letter, Mission attorney Everett J. Bowman formally requested the health system be released from the COPA, which Mission says constricts its ability to grow and results in unnecessary and costly regulation.

The 11-member House Select Committee on the Certificate of Need Process and Related Hospital Issues held one meeting in mid-January and has another scheduled for Feb. 15.
