FROM RIVERLINK (full release)
RiverLink staff and volunteers partnered with the Asheville Housing Authority to plant trees and pick up trash in Hillcrest Apartments on Thursday, Feb. 2, a day more like spring than winter.
Thanks to a generous donation from a RiverLink volunteer, 30 Silver Maple trees went into the ground around the new walking path at Hillcrest, to offer shade and beautify the area.. The nine-member team worked fast and the planting went quickly, so the group did a litter cleanup of the recreation area, filling three large trash bags with debris.
"It's awesome to think that in just a few hours, these RiverLink volunteers planted trees that will be here for decades to come," said Dave Russell, RiverLink's Director of Volunteer Services.
RiverLink is a regional non-profit working to revitalize the French Broad River and its tributaries as a place to live, work and play. Primarily focused on streams and riparian areas, RiverLink will also lend its resources to worthwhile causes throughout the French Broad River watershed. To find out more about getting involved in future volunteer opportunities, contact RiverLink's Dave Russell at 252-8474, ext. 11, or dave@riverlink.org.
