West Asheville natives Celeste Adams (right) and Emily Bishop sit by the open garage door at the West Asheville Lounge and Kitchen. "The kale is awesome," says Adams, who also had avocado salad. Bishop had the crunchy tacos, and they split an order of fries.

WALK opened today, Tuesday, Feb. 7. The pool tables and jukebox work flawlessly. The taps flow with local beer.

The food menu is affordable, recognizable, filled with local fare. There's a Hickory Nut Gap brat for $5, a burger sourced from the same Fairview farm that's served in either a 6-ounce portion ($6) or a 2-ounce portion ($3). A shrimp po' boy on West End Bakery baguette runs $8 and crispy beef/chicken/tempeh tacos are one for $2 or three for $5.

Easily the largest restaurant in east West Asheville, WALK is an interesting addition to the growing area.

WALK is located at 401 Haywood Road, across from the Admiral. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m., noon until 2 a.m. on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday brunch is coming soon, according to the owners.
