All lanes open, driver freed after tractor-trailer wreck on I-40

FROM THE ASHEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT (full release)
On Saturday, 02-11-12, at 06:13 am; a call was received reference a tractor trailer running off the road on I-40 East near mile marker 47. The driver was trapped inside the cab. Fire personnel worked courageously for over 3 hrs to extricate the driver from the mangled wreckage of the truck. Once the driver was freed from the cab he was transported to Mission Hospital.

The driver, Herman Glenn Wooten of 1639B Powhatan Rd., Clayton NC, is listed in serious condition. It is unknown at this time what caused the truck to run off the road. Mr. Wooten’s family has been notified by hospital personnel. Traffic Safety Officers from the Asheville Police Department responded to the scene, and are the primary investigators on this collision. All lanes of I-40 are now back open. The investigation remains on-going.

Mr. Wooten had been traveling from Monett, MO, enroute to Garner, NC.
