According to the Hendersonville Times-News, After two hours and three rounds of voting, retired Sheriff's Office Capt. Charlie McDonald was selected by the Henderson County Republican Party executive committee to replace Sheriff Rick Davis.
Voting came down to McDonald and Frank Stout, a retired N.C. Highway patrolman. The winning candidate needed at least 23 votes from the 44-member executive committee. In the third round, McDonald received 29 votes to Stout's 15.
The vote came after the previous Sheriff, Rick Davis, sought medical retirement late last year.
