One week after shooting, vendors are selling — with heavy hearts

According to the Hendersonville Times-News, Christina McCray, who has been a Sunday vendor the past two decades at Smiley's Flea Market, noticed a different feeling in the air this weekend — beyond the chilly winds that whipped through the market.

Exactly one week after a vendor was shot to death during what authorities said was an early morning dispute with another vendor, business continued on as usual, albeit under a cloud of shock and sorrow.

“It's just really sad,” said McCray, who sells clothing at the market with her family. “This place is really a nice, friendly place — it really is — and we've been here for years and years and years, and that something like that would happen is like something happening in the family. So, yes, I think the whole market is kind of sad today.”Read the full article
