Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity will raise the first wall of its seventh Women Build house on Wednesday, March 21st at 12
noon. The event, open to everyone, will take place at Habitat’s construction site on Chapel Park Place in Shiloh.
This year, the event will be an informal, participatory ceremony to celebrate the start of the home that Rhonda Chapman, the partner family, will purchase. With
the theme of spring, growth and new beginnings, attendees will be encouraged to share messages of hope and offer potted plants and herbs to be planted in a
garden once the house is complete. Volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff will be in attendance. The media and public are welcome!
Women Build, a national partnership with Habitat for Humanity International and Lowe’s, encourages women to step up to address the housing crisis facing
millions of women and children worldwide. Women fundraise for and build the house. The 2012 Women Build house is sponsored by the The Minigowin
Foundation, The Three Marthas, and Ad Lib, with further support from the community at large. Nationwide, more than 1,900 houses have been constructed
through the Women Build program.
It takes 1, 650 volunteer hours to build an Asheville Area Habitat house. To fill its schedule, Habitat is seeking 150 more women volunteers to help build the
