The Givens Estate's “Golden Spelers” took home first place in this year's Literacy Council Spelling Bee, narrowly out-spelling the Mountain Xpress team, which placed second. Held tonight at AB-Tech's Ferguson Auditorium, the bee pitted ten adult teams against each other, raising over $2500 for the Literacy Council of Buncombe County. A team of contestants from the LaZoom comedy troupe provided comic relief to the tense competition.
