AC-T: Montford residents disagree with timing of drug bust in Asheville

Children were arriving for a regularly scheduled after-school program less than a block away from an undercover drug operation that led to a destructive, high-speed getaway.

Many residents believe there is something wrong with that picture.

City police declined comment Friday, saying they will wait for results from an investigation into the drug sting and the attempted escape of Jerick Tyree Campbell.

But residents in the Montford neighborhood are still talking about Tuesday afternoon’s chase and crash, which ended with injuries to the 22-year-old suspect and three construction workers.

They said officers showed poor timing in conducting the bust at the same time school was letting out and the streets and sidewalks were busy with school buses, cyclists and pedestrians.Read the full article
