In anticipation of the primary, I am dedicating this enews to an exceptional candidate running in District Two, Ellen Frost. Ellen Frost is a civic-minded, small business owner from Black Mountain, dedicated to her family and her community. If you live in District Two, Ellen Frost is the public servant you can count on and will earn your vote. (www.ellenfrostforbuncombe.com)
Ellen will be an excellent County Commissioner for numerous reasons. First of all, as a successful entrepreneur, Ellen will bring to the board valuable insight regarding the realities faced by so many of our local businesses. Small business is the largest economic driver of our community, employing thousands of people and contributing the lion’s share of business taxes to our community. Her business perspective and knowledge will be invaluable to our board’s decision-making.
In addition, Ellen brings a deep passion for children and their well-being to her commitment to public service A doting grandmother, Ellen will share her love and concern with all of our children to insure that they are provided with the best schools and environment to assure their success. For Ellen, providing healthy foods to our students is an essential element of positive learning environment. She believes that our schools need to be a source of good foods giving our young people nourishment for their bodies as our teachers nourish their minds.
Recently endorsed by the Sierra Club, Ellen has been an advocate for the environment her entire adult life. She understands the critical connections between energy independence, our economy and our quality of life. As a County Commissioner, Ellen will promote sound land use planning protecting our natural resources while allowing for needed growth.
It has been a great honor to represent the entirety of Buncombe County for the last four years. I have worked hard to be responsive to people from all corners of the county with a range of concerns and needs. While I am saddened by the change in elections, I am excited about working with leaders like Ellen Frost and Brownie Newman.
