Here's an excerpt from the Asheville Citizen-Times article:
Both Republican candidates for chairman of the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners want to hold the line on taxes and are critics of the county zoning ordinance.
But just how Joseph “J.B.” Howard and Glenda Weinert would attack those issues might vary, as well as what they would do about the quarter-cent sales tax for building projects at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Howard, 64, who operates an investigative and security agency and lives in Fairview, wants to repeal countywide zoning and the A-B Tech tax and says the county spends too much on top employees’ salaries and nonprofit organizations.
Weinert, a 48-year-old Asheville resident who runs a home health care agency, takes a more measured approach. She says the A-B Tech tax and zoning both need more scrutiny and that it is too soon for her to talk about specific cuts in the county budget.
