We are excited to announce the 2012 Power the Vote Awards finalists and offer a new way to choose the winners that involves YOU!
Please help choose winners by casting a vote for projects that showcase local and state Leagues’ outstanding work that defends and strengthens our democracy. The finalists emphasized engaging communities, mobilizing grassroots, increasing visibility, and finding opportunities for organizational growth - many used social media and community partners to help achieve their outreach and engagement. Please read the submissions by clicking on the categories below and then rank your favorites (1st – 4th for each award category).
Voting closes on Friday, May 18th so please cast your vote NOW! Winners will be unveiled at the Convention Banquet on Monday, June 11th.
High Impact Online Engagement— Voters are relying more on social networks to give them up-to-date information about important issues. Leagues show how they effectively use blogs, Twitter and Facebook to reach voters, potential members and the public on national and local issues.
Finalists: LWV of Florida (FL), LWV of Asheville-Buncombe County (NC), LWV of Calumet Area (IN), LWV of Michigan (MI)
Effective Member Engagement— Leagues showcase election-related programs and activities that are innovative, unique and have been successful in gaining visibility as well as recruiting new members as well as engaging current members.
Finalists: LWV of Westport (CT), LWV of Palm Beach County (FL), LWV of Minnesota (MN), LWV of Saint Paul (MN)
Strengthening Democracy— Leagues show how they activate their grassroots network to promote change around priority issues such as clean air, climate, protecting voting rights, and youth voting.
Finalists: LWV of Minnesota (MN), LWV of Mobile (AL), LWV of South Carolina (SC), LWV of Texas (TX)
Community Connection— Leagues highlight issues that affect their local community and engage others (especially younger generations and underrepresented communities) to become civically involved.
Finalists: LWV of Greater Green Bay (WI), LWV of Oakland Area (MI), LWV of the Pasadena Area (CA), LWV of New York State (NY)
We had many creative projects that were submitted. We commend all who submitted their projects and congratulate the 16 finalists. We look forward to seeing you all at the 2012 National Convention in June!
