Around 500 people gathered in front of the courthouse Saturday for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an event to raise awareness of sexual assault. The event gives men the opportunity to take don heels, take a stand against rape, and bring attention to the subject in a positive way.

The Walk focuses on the community joining forces against sexual assault and empowering individuals. It also raises money for OurVOICE, Asheville's rape crisis center. Through counseling, advocacy, and education, OurVOICE serves all individuals in the Buncombe County affected by sexual assault and abuse. In the U.S. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men are victims of sexual violence in their lifetimes according to OurVOICE.
