Speaker Thom Tillis has lost a second staffer due to a romantic involvement with a state lobbyist, mere days after Buncombe County's Charles Thomas, former chief of staff for Tillis, resigned due to an affair with a homebuilders' association lobbyist. The News & Observer reports that the new disclosure involves Amy Hobbs, a policy analyst, and Dean Plunkett, a lobbyist who represents several clients in the state legislature. Tillis, while still looking into the disclosures, was quoted as saying, "I think it will be very apparent that these organizations received no special treatment.”

"After Thomas’ resignation, Tillis said he returned to his office on Sunday afternoon and questioned five of his 10 remaining staff members, who had been the subject of rumors related to inappropriate behavior...
"Tillis declined to provide details about the other rumors, which were not all involving allegations of improper relationships. He said the staffers denied the rumors and he does not believe anything inappropriate happened, so providing more details would give them credence they did not deserve."
Nothing to see here... He's lost two staffers, & half of the remaining staff are also the subject of rumors, but "he does not believe anything inappropriate happened". Tillis also apparently believed Thomas when he denied having an affair with a lobbyist a couple of months ago...

Tillis/ALEC/Moffitt
This newest staffer who resigned is a former lobbyist herself, for McGuireWoods, the giant firm which among other things, has been lobbying Tim Moffitt's privatization committee to institute a statewide privatization effort for everything including public water utilities.
