Jennifer Pharr Davis might have broken it today: According to an update from her blog, reported by BlueRidgeNow.com (the Hendersonville Times-News, Davis just completed the course in 46 days, 11 hours and 20 minutes.

HOT SPRINGS - Under blue skies and humid temperatures, Jennifer Pharr Davis, 28, hiked into the small town of Hot Springs around noon Tuesday. She was greeted with cheers and shouts of “rock star” from a small contingent of friends who came up from Asheville to see her.
She acknowledged the greetings but kept up her powerful stride through town, along sidewalks marked with “AT” for Appalachian Trail. Wow!
That's maintaining an average of 1.955 miles per hour for the whole hike, or 46.93 miles per day for the whole hike. Most people couldn't do that on level ground, let alone come down from Maine to Georgia.
I bet no one could do that going from south to north. That last stretch going up Baxter Peak in Maine would kill a person doing it for speed.

Jennifer Pharr Davis should have been on the cover of Mountain Xpress, not just on Blogwire. She's been interviewed all over the country -she is a star and she lives in Asheville.
She's the fastest person in the U.S. right now.
