Singer-songwriter and guitarist Walter Parks used to live in Asheville — that was about 10 years ago, and his golden pig bed posts stayed on well after he left, as yard ornaments at Hanger Hall. He was born and raised in Jacksonville, Fla. but, as he explains in this interview, he's well-traveled. These days Parks, whose folk-rock band Swamp Cabbage just released a new album Drum Roll Please — is based in N.Y., but he still often roots his songs in a murky, soulful Georgia/Florida aesthetic. And he's got family ties to WNC, too: Parks' grandfather owned a general store in Swannanoa, which is featured in the current exhibit, “Beans, Butter, & Bacon: Early General Stores in the Swannanoa Valley" at the Swannanoa Valley Museum.
Parks hopes to be back in the area in October with Swamp Cabbage.
