From the press release from Charlotte Street Animal Hospital:
Charlotte Street Animal Hospital now offers stem cell regenerative therapy for the animals of western North Carolina. Dr. Beth Rhyne, who was certified in Canine Rehabilitation in December 2010, is now also credentialed in stem cell treatment. Stem cell therapy is primarily used to treat companion animal osteoarthritis (OA) and tendon and ligament injuries. According to Dr. Rhyne, “The animal’s own mature stem cells are used so there are no ethical concerns like those surrounding embryonic stem cell research. Animals with debilitating pain now have an effective alternative to surgery, euthanasia, or severely decreased quality of life.”

Stem cell regenerative therapy completes the comprehensive range of physical rehabilitation treatments offered at Charlotte Street Animal Hospital, which also offers Asheville’s first companion animal underwater treadmill. Physical rehabilitation is helpful in treating pets with neurological diseases, hip pain, soft tissue sprains/strains, and arthritis, as well as those recovering from orthopedic surgery.  Any animal experiencing stiffness, trauma, pain, muscle atrophy, imbalance, or inflammation can benefit from physical rehabilitative therapy.
