The Kernel, whose bio is a collection of videos, seems drawn from another era. Or, perhaps, a patchwork of eras. His thrift shops suits are pure '70s, his sound is '60s rockabilly and '50s do-wop, his hair is borrowed from '90s grunge.
According to The Fiddleback, The Kernal (aka Joe Garner) is from Jackson, Tenn. and plays what he calls “imaginary country music.” His debut album is Farwellhello.

The Kernal plays Jack of the Wood on Monday, June 25, with Andrew Combs and Mechanical River. 10 p.m., $5.
