Here's the latest message and video from Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Chair David Gantt via his campaign's email newsletter:

Focus on the Budget: County Employee Longevity Pay

The last Buncombe County Commission meeting before the summer break was perhaps the most important of the year, with the Board voting on the next county budget. Buncombe will spend $337 million for all purposes in the fiscal year that began July 1, an increase of about one percent over last year. There will be no changes in the tax rate or in county employee compensation.

Employee compensation has been a hot topic lately, with numerous stories in local media about the County Manager's salary, the amount of longevity pay for long-time employees, and the waiting period for workers to be eligible for coverage under the county's health insurance program.

David addresses these issues in detail in three short videos, the second of which is embedded below. Keep an eye on your inbox and on social media for the third video which will be posted next week.

This week, David discusses longevity pay for county employees.

Watch the second video here in which Gantt discusses employee pay and CTS contamination.
