Before new shelter, Transylvania County's homeless sought refuge in woods

Until a shelter called "The Haven" opened in Brevard last year, Transylvania County's homeless population was largely invisible. They lived with relatives, slept in their cars or hid in tents within Pisgah National Forest.

Ganner estimates there are now 150 to 200 homeless camping in Pisgah who regularly use The Sharing House for showers, food and supplies.
