from PARCThe Church is holding a 'Say No to the Hotel' Rally! next Tuesday, September 11th, to protest the McKibbon Hotel plan for a hotel on city-owned land in front of the Basilica. The Rally starts at 4:30 at the City Building. City Council has said that they'll take public comment AND make a decision at their meeting that night.
Also, the Church will hold a public meeting tomorrow evening, Friday September 7th, in the conference room of the Renaissance Hotel at 31 Woodfin Street to present its proposal for developing this property.
On Saturday, members and supporters will get together from 3-5PM to make signs for the Tuesday rally. Please come! Bring your ideas, markers, and poster board to the church basement, Laurentine Hall.

If PARC had been around in 1800 we wouldn't have roads here. Cities are organic, evolving creatures. Hotel rates are sky high downtown versus a few years ago and I for one would love to see some added hotel competition.
I notice that the PARC/Basilica tag team has apparently abandoned the spurious argument that the new construction would endanger the Basilica. I guess when the church decided to lob in an offer, safer construction methods were discovered. Or, maybe more than a few of us remember the wrecking ball the Basilica used on their building which is much closer to the Basilica than this construction will be.
The McKibbon plan looks great and I hope the council approves it.
