Here's the press release from Warren Wilson College:
Two Warren Wilson College professors, Dr. Kevin Kehrberg (Department of Music) and Dr. Jeffrey A. Keith (Department of Global Studies), are preparing for another State Department tour as members of the Red State Ramblers, an Appalachian string band.
In January, the group traveled to the Central Asian Republic of Kyrgyzstan to perform and collaborate with Kyrgyz traditional musicians. This month, the group is traveling to Ecuador to perform as a part of a yearlong celebration of Rural America sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Quito. Performance locations include Guayaquil, Loja (Ecuador’s “City of Music”), and two smaller towns in the coastal region.
The itinerary also involves collaboration with a traditional band from Loja to open the city’s new Binational Center, as well as area workshops for local music students. Departing Oct. 20, Kehrberg and Keith will return to western North Carolina Oct. 28.
