Press release
from Laura WrightGot an old doghouse you’re not using?
In memory of Peggy Irwin (March 30, 1948-October 17, 2012), founder of ChainFree Asheville, I am organizing a “doghouse drive” to collect used and new, clean, intact doghouses to give to Haywood County Animal Control in order for Animal Control to take them to needy dogs and dog owners over the winter.
Please consider donating a doghouse for distribution to dogs in need over the winter months. Outdoor dogs need adequate shelter in order to stay warm and dry; you can help provide that shelter to a dog that will otherwise go without – and your contribution will help to educate pet owners about the importance of providing warm, dry housing to their
dogs in the process.
Please bring clean used or new doghouses – any size and make, as long as they are water tight and sturdy – to the Petco parking lot located at 825 Brevard Rd. in Asheville any time between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. We’ll collect the doghouses, insulate them, and take them to Haywood County for distribution.
- If you don’t have a doghouse to donate, we also need the following items to help us insulate and keep them dry:
- cedar pet bedding
- egg carton foam or other foam sheets
- plastic sheeting and tarps
- wooden pallets
Plant Restaurant in Asheville (plantisfood.com) will be hosting a fundraiser for the event on Tuesday, November 13. A percentage of that day’s earnings will go to buying doghouses and insulation materials for the event.
