Appalachian Community ServicesAppalachian Community Services announced it has received a grant of $26,244 from the Evergreen Foundation. The award will be used to fund a critical mental health program serving Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Graham, Cherokee and Clay Counties.
As part of statewide budget cuts, a service known as Community Support Team was cut for those without Medicaid, leaving many individuals to face serious psychiatric symptoms or substance abuse challenges without the help they need. Under this grant, which funds the program from Jan. 1, 2013 through June 30, 2013, Appalachian Community Services will provide intensive treatment and case management for these individuals.
“This specialized team will help individuals better manage their symptoms, access needed medication, treatment, housing, transportation, medical and other services,” said Doug Trantham, Clinical Director at Appalachian Community Services. “This grant from the Evergreen Foundation will be a great benefit to individuals with mental health and substance abuse challenges, their families, and the community.”
Appalachian Community Services provides Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Intellectual/Developmental Disability services and has offices in the Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Macon and Swain counties. Individuals in need of services are encouraged to call (828)837-0071.
